tapesntapes and tapes.

Well, we have another show, yet again at Common Grounds. This will of course be our first show with Danny Welsh as our drummer (since like 2002 or something, when he was our drummer, too).
We are opening for a band called Tapesntapes (I'm not sure if I should write it as one word or three...), and their support act, the Annuals (I'm not sure if it's Annuals, or The Annuals. I guess you'll have to come to the show to find out). Tapesntapes is one of Karl's fave bands, he's been freaking out about them for a while. It's a Wednesday night show, October 25.
Please join us, and watch youthful enthusiasm triumph over back pain and free-floating anxiety.
All of this got me thinking about tapes, cassette tapes, and the days when Squeaky began. Steve and I worked at a recording studio which did cassette duplication, so we had unnatural access to old, useless casettes. We would cull tapes of the right lengths and put Squeaky albums on them, so that we could give them away at shows. It was a really satisfying sight to see tens of people grab our music out of a box at the end of a show... what happened after the tapes arrived home with the folks one never knows, but we got the tapes in the hands of actual people, and that was something. A few times we sent tapes to everyone that was on our mailing list. Talk about old school...using the postal service to deliver music! wow! A few people told us over the years that it was cool to get music in the mail unexpectedly, and that makes us happy, but for the most part, you just send the stuff up and hope that something good happens. Which is basically what being in a band is all about.
