Practice, Moser

We practiced as a 5-piece last night, we were struggling to find our sound, for some unknown reason. Things got better when we realized that half of the PA speakers were off. We did some ridiculous jams in the two-drummer configuration, just for fun. And a great version of "Beer Me Up." Unfortunately, our actual 'songs' did not sound so hot.

Here are some thoughts about a song of ours called Moser, from our first CD. Sugarblimp is, of course, one of the foremost thinkers in the arena of popular culture, so his insight into Squeaky's music is sine qua non for any Squeaky fan.

Sugarblimp: I've listened to Moser many times. There is a lot going on in that song. How did that song come about? The drums sound different than a lot of your other songs. There's that angular tonal noodling that you guys do a lot, but then it goes into a classic Sonic Youth precursor to greatness set up that builds tension that partially resolves with this 1980's ascending rhythm chord thing. But it stops doing that -leaving you wanting more. The vocals sound like they are coming at you from different directions giving the song a spacious, 3-D feel.  Overall the song has really good balance, blending more traditional pop structures to hook the listener in, but mixing it up with a couple of tonal interludes which provide a crucial change up to keep it from getting boring and overly familiar. Plus it has a pretty dope guitar solo.

Anyway I don't know what I'm talking about I just like the song.

Yup.
